Authentic Hawaiian Huli Huli Chicken

A delicious and traditional Hawaiian dish combining sweet and savory flavors, perfect for summer BBQs and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, pineapple juice, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and let them marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for the best results.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade and place it on the grill. Cook for about 6-7 minutes per side, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C) and has nice grill marks.
  5. Serve hot, brushing any remaining marinade on top while cooking if desired.

Notes

For optimal flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. Use a meat thermometer to ensure it’s cooked through. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
