Cake with Next-Level Frosting

A delightful dessert that combines a fluffy cake with rich, creamy frosting, perfect for any occasion.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 24 tablespoons heavy cream (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together 1/2 cup of butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture alternately with milk.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat together 1/2 cup of butter and 2 cups of powdered sugar until smooth.
  9. Add vanilla and heavy cream, adjusting the cream for desired consistency.
  10. Once the cakes are cool, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides.

Notes

To store the cake, keep it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Can be refrigerated for a week or frozen for up to 3 months.
