Chocolate Cherry Pie

A delightful dessert combining rich chocolate flavor with sweet and tart cherries for a healthier take on a classic pie.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 11/2 cups (9 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Whipped cream and maraschino cherries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt. Stir in the melted butter until well combined.
  3. Press the mixture firmly onto the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie plate. Chill in the refrigerator until firm, about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Bake the crust in the preheated oven until it is golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.
  5. In a saucepan over low heat, combine the sweetened condensed milk, semisweet chocolate chips, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Cook and stir until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
  6. Stir in the cherry pie filling and almond extract until fully combined.
  7. Pour this chocolate-cherry mixture into the cooled pie crust.
  8. Chill the pie in the refrigerator for 4-5 hours or overnight until set.
  9. Before serving, top with whipped cream and maraschino cherries if desired.
