Classic Spaghetti Bolognese

A flavorful Italian dish featuring a rich meat sauce served over spaghetti, perfect for any occasion.

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 400 grams (about 14 oz) of ground beef
  • 400 grams (about 14 oz) of canned tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 400 grams (about 14 oz) of spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving (optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are soft.
  3. Add the ground beef. Stir it well and cook until it is browned.
  4. Once the meat is cooked, add the canned tomatoes and the tomato paste. Mix everything together.
  5. Sprinkle in the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 20-30 minutes.
  7. While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
  8. Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander.
  9. Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce pot. Toss everything together until the spaghetti is well coated in the sauce.
  10. Plate the Spaghetti Bolognese and offer grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil on top if desired.

Notes

Storing leftovers in an airtight container can keep them fresh for up to 3 days in the fridge. You can also freeze for 2-3 months.
