Easy Savoury Mince Recipe

A hearty bowl of savoury mince served with mashed potatoes and vegetables.

This easy savoury mince recipe is a comforting, budget-friendly classic that has been a staple in my family for generations. Perfect for batch cooking and freezing, it’s a lifesaver on hectic nights when you need something satisfying and filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g lean minced beef (or substitute with lamb, turkey, or Quorn mince)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp tomato purée
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs
  • 300ml beef stock
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce or Marmite
  • 200g frozen mixed vegetables
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp mustard powder (optional)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 small carrot, grated

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until soft and fragrant.
  2. Increase the heat and add the minced beef, breaking it apart and cooking until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in the flour, then mix in the tomato purée, Worcestershire sauce, and beef stock. Simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Add the frozen vegetables, grated carrot, and mustard powder. Cook for another 6-8 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  5. Stir in the soy sauce and let the flavors meld for another 2-3 minutes. Adjust seasoning as needed. Serve hot.

Notes

For a thicker sauce, mix a teaspoon of cornstarch with water before adding. You can also add a splash of balsamic vinegar or smoked paprika for extra depth of flavor.
