Traditional Spumoni

A delicious layered Italian dessert typically featuring pistachio, cherry, and chocolate or vanilla ice cream, garnished with nuts and fruits.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart of pistachio ice cream or gelato
  • 1 quart of cherry ice cream or gelato
  • 1 quart of chocolate or vanilla ice cream or gelato
  • 1/2 cup of chopped pistachios
  • 1/2 cup of maraschino cherries (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup of candied fruit (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mold: Line a loaf pan or dome-shaped mold with plastic wrap.
  2. Layer the Flavors: Spread the pistachio ice cream into the mold, sprinkle with chopped pistachios, and freeze for 15 minutes.
  3. Add the Cherry Layer: Add the cherry ice cream over the pistachio layer, sprinkle with chopped cherries, and freeze for another 15 minutes.
  4. Finish with Chocolate or Vanilla: Add the chocolate or vanilla ice cream and mix in optional chocolate chips, then freeze for 15 minutes.
  5. Freeze the Spumoni: Cover with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Remove from mold, slice, and garnish with extra nuts or cherries if desired.
