Black Cat Pancakes

Black Cat Pancakes

Fluffy jet-black pancakes shaped like mischievous cats—complete with chocolate-chip eyes and whipped-cream whiskers—for a spooky-cute Halloween breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups prepared pancake batter (mix or homemade)
  • Black gel food coloring, to desired shade
  • Chocolate chips – eyes
  • Whipped cream – whiskers
  • Powdered sugar – for dusting
  • Butter or oil – for greasing skillet

Instructions

  1. Prepare pancake batter according to package or recipe. Tint with black gel food coloring until deep charcoal.
  2. Heat a lightly greased non-stick skillet over medium.
  3. Pour an oval of batter for the body and a smaller circle touching it for the head. Using a spoon, drag small points of batter to form two ears.
  4. Cook until bubbles surface and edges look set, 2–3 min; flip gently and cook 1–2 min more.
  5. Transfer to a plate; repeat with remaining batter.
  6. Decorate cooled pancakes with chocolate-chip eyes, pipe whipped-cream whiskers, and dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm.

Notes

Use gel coloring for bold color without thinning the batter. Shape ears before the surface sets, and let everyone join the decorating fun!
