  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until combined.
  5. If desired, divide the dough and mix in food coloring to create a heart shape.
  6. Roll the dough into a log shape and chill in the refrigerator until firm, about 1 hour.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Slice the chilled dough into thin rounds and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. If desired, sprinkle with colorful sprinkles.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  11. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

These cookies can be made ahead and stored for later use. They store well in an airtight container and can be frozen for up to three months.
