A decadent twist on a classic cinnamon roll with a rich red velvet dough and cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 24 tbsp milk (to adjust consistency)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, and sugar. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add the active dry yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Mix the flour mixture into the milk mixture until a dough forms.
  5. Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  6. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  7. In a small bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and optional chocolate chips until a spreadable paste forms.
  8. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a ¼-inch thick rectangle.
  9. Spread the filling over the dough, leave a small border, and roll tightly into a log.
  10. Cut the roll into 12 pieces and place in a greased baking dish.
  11. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  12. Bake for 25-30 minutes until lightly golden and cooked through.
  13. For the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk for consistency.
  14. Once rolls are cool, frost and serve immediately.
