High-Protein Hot Chocolate

There’s nothing better than a warm cup of hot chocolate on a chilly day—except one that’s packed with protein to keep you full and energized! This high-protein hot chocolate is rich, creamy, and loaded with chocolate flavor, but also gives you 20+ grams of protein per serving.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cup dairy-free milk (full-fat oat milk recommended)
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao powder (or unsweetened cocoa powder)
  • 1 scoop protein powder (vanilla or chocolate flavor)
  • 1 tbsp sweetener of choice (maple syrup, agave, or sugar)
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract (optional for extra flavor)
  • Pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg (optional for warmth)
  • 1 tsp coconut oil (for extra creaminess)

Instructions

  1. Pour oat milk (or preferred dairy-free milk) into a small saucepan and heat over medium-low until warm but not boiling.
  2. Whisk in cacao powder, protein powder, sweetener, and coconut oil, stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
  3. Use a hand-held frother or immersion blender for a smooth and frothy consistency.
  4. Pour into a mug and top with vegan marshmallows, whipped cream, or dark chocolate shavings.
  5. For microwave preparation, combine all ingredients in a microwave-safe mug, whisk well, and heat for 1 minute, stirring halfway through.

Notes

Use a plant-based protein powder for a vegan version. Adjust sweetness based on preference. For a mocha variation, add ½ tsp instant coffee. Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat as needed.
