Homemade Eggnog

A creamy and rich homemade eggnog recipe, perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and sea salt until combined. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, combine the whole milk, cream, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Heat over medium-low heat, whisking often, until it begins to steam, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Add 1/4 cup of the warm milk mixture to the egg mixture and whisk well.
  5. Add in another 1/4 cup of the milk mixture and whisk again. Repeat twice more so you have added a total of 1 cup of the milk mixture to the egg mixture.
  6. Pour the egg mixture into the saucepan with the rest of the milk mixture and continue to heat and whisk almost constantly until the mixture begins to thicken and reaches 160 degrees F, about 15 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and whisk in the vanilla extract.
  8. Strain the mixture into a jar or other container with a cover.
  9. Allow to chill completely in the fridge. Stir well before serving and top with a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.

Notes
