Homemade Ginger Beer

A refreshing homemade ginger beer with a spicy flavor and customizable sweetness. Perfect for hot days and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Ginger bug starter (fermented ginger water)
  • Lemon wheel for garnish
  • Crystallized ginger for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the freshly grated ginger and sugar. Stir in the filtered water until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add the lemon juice and ginger bug starter to the mixture.
  3. Pour the mixture into a clean bottle and seal it.
  4. Leave the bottle at room temperature for 2-7 days to ferment, checking for carbonation.
  5. Once fermented, chill in the refrigerator.
  6. Serve cold, garnished with a lemon wheel and crystallized ginger.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding fresh mint leaves or making a ginger beer float with vanilla ice cream.
