Homemade Pumpkin Spice Syrup

A delightful syrup that brings the warm flavors of fall to your beverages and desserts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¾ cup maple syrup (or honey, coconut sugar, or cane sugar)
  • ¼ cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon allspice (optional)
  • ⅛ teaspoon cardamom (optional)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the water, maple syrup, and pumpkin puree until smooth.
  2. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and a pinch of salt. Stir well to blend.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium-low heat and simmer gently for 6–8 minutes, stirring frequently. If using a cinnamon stick, add it now and remove before bottling.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Add lemon juice if using.
  5. If a smooth texture is desired, strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean jar. Skip this step for a textured syrup.
  6. Let the syrup cool to room temperature, then seal and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

For a sweeter syrup, add more maple syrup or honey. You can also customize the spice levels to your liking.
