Tamarind Drink

A refreshing and unique sweet and sour tamarind drink that’s easy to make and perfect for hot days.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups tamarind, peeled (350 grams)
  • 5 cups water
  • 1/23/4 cups granulated white sugar
  • Ice cubes, for serving

Instructions

  1. Peel the tamarind pods.
  2. Combine the sugar, peeled tamarind, and 3 cups of water in a large pot.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Once boiling, reduce heat and cook for 8-10 minutes, covered.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool for about 10 minutes.
  6. Use a potato masher to crush the tamarind.
  7. Pass the mashed mixture through a fine-meshed sieve into a serving jug.
  8. Add ice and stir in the remaining 2 cups of water.
  9. Serve chilled.

Notes

Best served chilled, optionally garnish with lemon or lime slices.
