Instant Pot BBQ Chicken Drumsticks

A quick and flavorful dish of chicken drumsticks cooked in an Instant Pot, perfect for busy weeknights.

  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 5 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken drumsticks (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • BBQ sauce (optional – your favorite kind)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, kosher salt, and ground black pepper.
  2. Season the chicken drumsticks liberally with the spice mixture.
  3. Place the metal trivet inside the Instant Pot.
  4. Arrange the seasoned chicken drumsticks on top of the trivet.
  5. Pour the low-sodium chicken broth over the chicken drumsticks.
  6. Close the lid of the Instant Pot and ensure the steam valve is set to sealing. Set to HIGH pressure and cook for 15 minutes (fresh) or 20 minutes (frozen).
  7. Release the pressure carefully by turning the valve to venting. Allow to rest for 5 minutes after pressure release.
  8. Optional: Toss drumsticks in BBQ sauce and broil on a baking sheet for 2-4 minutes for crispy skin.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to 3 months.
