Kashmiri Pink Tea

A traditional Kashmiri beverage known for its exquisite pink color and creamy flavor, perfect for cozy winter evenings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tsp green tea leaves (or 1 green tea bag)
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Optional: Crushed pistachios or almonds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the green tea leaves and baking soda to the boiling water and stir gently.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the tea simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk the tea vigorously until the color changes to reddish-pink.
  5. Put the saucepan back on low heat and slowly add milk, cardamom, and sugar. Stir well.
  6. Heat until warm but do not let it boil.
  7. Strain the tea into cups and garnish with crushed nuts if desired.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh; store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
