Midnight Christmas Cocoa

A delightful and rich hot cocoa perfect for cozy holiday gatherings, filled with flavors of chocolate and a hint of cinnamon.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole milk (or your preferred milk)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (or chopped dark chocolate)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream (for topping)
  • Shaved chocolate or chocolate chips (for topping)
  • Cinnamon or cocoa powder (for garnish)
  • Mini marshmallows (optional, for topping)
  • Cinnamon stick (for stirring, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream over medium-low heat. Stir occasionally until warm, but not boiling.
  2. Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and cocoa powder, stirring continuously until melted and smooth.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt, blending well.
  4. Pour the hot cocoa into festive mugs.
  5. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with shaved chocolate or chocolate chips.
  6. Optionally, dust with cinnamon or cocoa powder for extra flavor.
  7. Serve with a cinnamon stick for stirring if desired.

Notes

Store leftover cocoa in the refrigerator for up to three days or freeze for up to two months. To reheat, stir well and warm gently.
