Mint Julep Mocktail

A refreshing non-alcoholic drink featuring mint and ginger ale, perfect for hot summer days.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup ginger ale or non-alcoholic bourbon
  • Crushed ice
  • Mint sprigs for garnish (optional)
  • 8 mint leaves
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons sugar (or sugar cubes)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of sugar over medium heat.
  2. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Add 1 cup of mint leaves and bring the mixture to a gentle boil while stirring occasionally.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool, keeping covered.
  6. Strain the mixture into a clean container to create the mint syrup.
  7. Fill cups or glasses with crushed ice.
  8. Pour 1/2 cup ginger ale or non-alcoholic bourbon into each cup.
  9. Add 1/4 cup mint syrup to each cup and stir gently.
  10. For a fresher version, muddle 8 mint leaves with 1 to 2 teaspoons of sugar at the bottom of a glass, then fill with crushed ice and top with ginger ale or non-alcoholic bourbon.
  11. Stir gently, garnish with mint if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

Best enjoyed immediately after preparation. Garnish with fresh mint or citrus slices for enhanced flavor.
