Pine Needle Tea

A unique and refreshing herbal drink made from the needles of pine trees, rich in vitamins and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Eastern White Pine needles
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 slices lemon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or honey (optional)
  • 23 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 23 sprigs fresh mint

Instructions

  1. Remove pine needles from the woody stems, using only fresh, green needles.
  2. Rinse the needles with cold water to remove any dirt or dust.
  3. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a teapot, saucepan, or French Press.
  4. Pour the boiling water over the pine needles in the pot.
  5. Add any additional ingredients except for the lemon.
  6. Cover the pot and steep the tea for about 15 minutes.
  7. Strain out the needles using a mesh sieve.
  8. Serve hot, adding lemon slices if desired.
  9. For iced tea, let the tea cool and store it in the fridge for up to 2-3 days.

Notes

Pine needle tea can also be flavored with other ingredients like orange slices or a cinnamon stick. Sweetening is optional.
