Pineapple Jaljeera: A Bold Cross-Cultural Refresher With Digestive Benefits

Pineapple Jaljeera

Pineapple Jaljeera is a bold, tangy, and spiced Indian-inspired refresher that combines the tropical sweetness of pineapple with the complex digestive benefits of jaljeera masala – perfect for summer days and pre-meal sipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • 2 tablespoons jaljeera masala
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint leaves
  • 2 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Pineapple wedge and mint sprig, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Blend pineapple chunks until smooth, then strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove pulp.
  2. In a small bowl, mix jaljeera masala, tamarind paste, roasted cumin powder, and lemon juice into a paste.
  3. Combine pineapple juice, spice paste, cold water, and chopped mint in a pitcher. Stir thoroughly.
  4. Chill for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld.
  5. Serve over ice in glasses, garnished with pineapple wedges and mint sprigs.

Notes

Use fresh, ripe pineapple for the best sweetness and flavor. For a fizzy version, replace half the water with soda water. You can make your own jaljeera masala by mixing roasted cumin powder, dried mint, black salt, ginger powder, and a pinch of asafoetida. Adjust spice and sweetness to taste.
