Pumpkin Spice Syrup with Real Pumpkin

A delightful syrup capturing the essence of fall with warm flavors of pumpkin and spices, perfect for drinks and desserts.

  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup pure pumpkin puree
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: ½ cup maple syrup
  • Optional: 1 cinnamon stick
  • Optional: Dash of orange zest or ¼ teaspoon allspice

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the brown sugar and water until largely dissolved.
  2. Add the pumpkin puree and stir over medium heat until smoothly combined (2–3 minutes).
  3. Add the spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, and a pinch of salt. Whisk frequently to prevent lumps.
  4. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for about 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let it sit for about a minute.
  6. If desired, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a clean jar.
  7. Pour the cooled syrup into a sterilized glass jar or bottle and refrigerate, lasting up to 2 weeks.

Notes

For richer sweetness, consider adding maple syrup. You can freeze small portions for longer storage.
