  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • Powdered sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth.
  4. Stir in the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  7. Roll the chilled dough into small balls and coat each ball in powdered sugar.
  8. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are firm.
  10. Let the cookies cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
