Sausage Gravy Puff Pastry Pie

A comforting dish combining sausage gravy and flaky puff pastry, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground sage (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 package puff pastry, thawed

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat over medium heat and cook the ground sausage until browned and fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes.
  2. Sprinkle flour evenly over the sausage, stirring to combine and cook for about 2 minutes.
  3. Gradually pour in the whole milk while stirring to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Season the gravy with salt, black pepper, sage, and red pepper flakes; set aside to cool slightly.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Roll out one sheet of puff pastry to fit a 9-inch pie dish and press it gently into the dish.
  7. Pour the slightly cooled sausage gravy into the pastry-lined dish, spreading it evenly.
  8. Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry and place it over the filling, trimming excess dough and crimping the edges to seal.
  9. Cut slits in the top crust for steam to escape and place the pie in the oven.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Let cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes
