Spanish Hot Chocolate

A warm and rich drink with a thick and creamy texture, perfect for cozy evenings or gatherings.

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2.5 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 cups whole milk

Instructions

  1. In a pan, mix the cocoa and sugar together until well combined.
  2. Dissolve the cornstarch in the water in a small bowl and then add it to the pan, stirring to create a smooth paste.
  3. Heat the mixture over medium heat while continuously stirring.
  4. Slowly pour in the milk, whisking it into the mixture to combine well.
  5. Continue to heat this mixture, whisking often, until it starts to simmer, which means you will see small bubbles forming.
  6. Once it reaches a simmer, keep stirring until the cocoa thickens and becomes glossy.
  7. When ready, pour the hot chocolate into large mugs and enjoy.

Notes

Serve hot with optional toppings like cinnamon sticks, whipped cream, or marshmallows. Pairs excellently with churros or various snacks.
