Banana Bread Syrup for Coffee

A delightful syrup that adds the warm, sweet flavor of banana bread to your morning coffee.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 overripe banana, mashed
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, stir together the water, mashed banana, brown sugar, granulated sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat and allow the mixture to heat until it starts to simmer.
  3. Once simmering, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
  5. Strain the mixture using a strainer or cheesecloth to separate the solids from the syrup.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract to the syrup.
  7. Transfer the syrup to a bottle or jar and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

Perfect for adding to coffee, pancakes, or yogurt. Freeze excess in ice cube trays for longer storage.
