Root Beer Baked Beans

A delicious twist on traditional baked beans, combining sweetness and smokiness while offering a healthy option packed with protein and fiber.

  • 3 slices of Bacon
  • 1 small Onion, diced
  • 2 (16-ounce) cans of Pork and Beans
  • 1/2 cup regular Root Beer
  • 1/4 cup Smoky Barbecue Sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon Hot Sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Remove the bacon and drain it on paper towels, reserving about 2 tablespoons of drippings.
  4. Sauté the diced onion in the reserved bacon drippings over high heat for about 5 minutes.
  5. Combine the sautéed onions, crumbled bacon, pork and beans, root beer, smoky barbecue sauce, and hot sauce in a lightly greased 1-quart baking dish.
  6. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for about 55 minutes.

Notes

For healthier options, consider using turkey bacon or plant-based bacon alternatives. These baked beans are great for meal prep and can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
