Hamburger Steak with Onion Gravy

A delicious and satisfying meal combining juicy hamburger steaks with rich onion gravy, perfect for a heart-healthy dinner.

  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1.5 lbs. Ground Beef (85% Lean)
  • 4 Tablespoons Frozen Butter (Shredded)
  • 0.5 Cup Yellow Onion (Very Finely Minced)
  • 2 Teaspoons Yellow Mustard
  • 3 Teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3 Cloves Garlic (Minced)
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • 2 Yellow Onions (Sliced into 0.75 Inch Strings)
  • 3 Tablespoons Cold Unsalted Butter (Divided)
  • 1 Cup Chicken Broth
  • 1 Cup Beef Broth
  • 1 Teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 0.5 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1.5 Teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 0.25 Cup Cold Water
  • 3 Tablespoons Corn Starch

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef Mixture: In a mixing bowl, gently combine the minced onions, shredded frozen butter, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and the ground beef, forming oval-shaped patties.
  2. Chill the Patties: Place the formed patties in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
  3. Season the Patties: Remove the patties and season each side generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Sear the Patties: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the patties for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  5. Cook the Onions: Reduce heat, add cold unsalted butter, and sliced yellow onions to the skillet, cooking until caramelized.
  6. Make the Gravy: Add chicken broth, beef broth, onion powder, garlic powder, and additional Worcestershire sauce to the onions.
  7. Thicken the Gravy: Mix cornstarch with cold water and stir into the boiling gravy until thickened.
  8. Return the Patties: Add the seared patties back into the skillet, spooning gravy over them and covering to simmer for about 10 minutes.
  9. Finish the Dish: Stir in remaining cold butter before serving.

Notes

Great for meal prep and can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
