Gingerbread Apple Cider Punch

Gingerbread Apple Cider Punch has all the warm flavour of gingerbread — cinnamon, ginger and a little molasses sweetness — but it is served ice-cold and fizzy, not hot.

It takes 10 minutes to make, plus 30 minutes to chill, and it serves 8 to 10 glasses. It is non-alcoholic, so everyone at the table can have a glass.

Why you’ll love this recipe

Apple cider and orange juice make a sweet, fruity base, and ginger ale adds the fizz. Gingerbread syrup, cinnamon sticks and orange slices give it that Christmas spice flavour, without needing to cook anything.

It is a good bridge between Thanksgiving and Christmas — apple, cinnamon and gingerbread work for both.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple cider, chilled
  • 2 cups ginger ale, chilled
  • 1 cup orange juice, chilled
  • 2 tablespoons gingerbread syrup, or 1 tablespoon molasses plus 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • Ice, to serve

How to make Gingerbread Apple Cider Punch

  1. Pour the apple cider and orange juice into a large pitcher or punch bowl and stir.
  2. Add the gingerbread syrup, or the molasses, ground ginger and ground cinnamon, and stir until it is mixed in.
  3. Add the cinnamon sticks and orange slices.
  1. Cover and chill for 30 minutes so the spices can flavour the cider.
Step 4 — Covering and chilling, square
  1. Just before serving, pour in the ginger ale and stir gently, so you do not lose the fizz.
  2. Add ice, and serve in glasses with an orange slice and a cinnamon stick.

Make ahead and serving tips

Mix the cider, orange juice, syrup and spices up to a day ahead and keep it covered in the fridge. Add the ginger ale and ice only when you are ready to serve.

If you do not have gingerbread syrup, the molasses swap in the ingredients list works well — start with 1 tablespoon and taste before you add more, as molasses is strong.

Serve it in a clear pitcher, so the amber cider, orange slices and cinnamon sticks show.
